[ R E V I E W ] : MAKE P:REM Tamanu Calming Serum

[Disclaimer: Product was gifted by brand but all opinions are entirely my own].

November is about to end and Christmas, as well as my birthday, is coming up fast. But if there's anything (aside from the Holidays) that excites me the most is the temperature drop lol. You might have already noticed that I'm becoming more and more engrossed with cozy Fall/Winter themed flatlays lately and I'm certainly enjoying every bit of it!

On the other hand, the cold weather brings about more than just cozy flatlays, it also brings dryness and flakiness! Eeeekk!! I am undeniably one of the oiliest persons you'll meet, but yes, I quickly evolve into a dry, flaky potato during the Christmas season. That means another quest for me for the most hydrating products to battle the drought that is my face! Luckily, I was chosen as one of Make P:Rem's reviewers recently for their latest product release which is a hydrating and calming serum. How timely and relevant! 😍 Kindly read on below for my full review.

BRAND HISTORY:

Here's a little fine point about the Brand's name. MAKE P:REM is a blend of  the words 'pragmatism' and 'remedy'. And as their name insinuates, Make P:rem is heavily riveted at practical, helpful, and effective products, thereby eliminating overkill packaging. Furthermore, they incorporate multi-tasking ingredients in their products in the belief that skincare must put more highlight in what is solely necessary, therefore aiming to cut tedious routines in half.

WHAT IT IS:

The Tamanu Calming Serum is a top of the heap product packed with ingredients especially concocted to soothe and hydrate the skin, starring Tamanu Oil from Madagascar as its key ingredient.

  • Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract – Also known as ‘Tea’ or ‘Green Tea’, packs powerful antioxidants, helps maintain collagen, reduces inflammation
  • Camellia Japonica Leaf Extract – Scavanges harmful free radicals, boosts skin hydration, fights against appearance of fine lines
  • Eruca Stiva Leaf Extract – Helps protect skin from the effects of the environment, packed with minerals
  • Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Sprout Extract – Helps soften skin, increases skin hydration
  • Brassica Oleracea Italica (Brocolli) Sprout Extract – Helps protect skin from the effects of the environment, known to regenerate cells
  • Lepidium Sativum Sprout Extract – Packed with vitamins, and helps treat irritated skin (reduces inflammation)

COMPLETE LIST OF INGREDIENTS:

VOLUME:
50 ML

PRICE:

$20.99 (On sale at Credithink)
$27.99 (Amazon)

CLAIMS:

  • Deeply nourishes and hydrates skin
  • Soothes skin irritation
  • Reduces wrinkles, fine lines and signs of aging.
  • Enhances skin complexion, resilience and texure.

DIRECTIONS:
After cleansing, toning and other lighter skin products, apply ample amount all over face.

IMPRESSIONS:
It is contained in an airless 50 ML pump. The scent of spice is a bit strong and the color is that of an Avocado Green. It is of thick consistency, thicker than usual serums.

EXPERIENCE:
I had been testing this serum for three weeks, usually at night, depending on my skin condition of the day. I also use it in the morning for whenever I have redness to soothe. I use a full pump in the morning and a couple of full pumps at night.

THOUGHTS:

PROS:

  • The airless pump packaging is very ideal. This is to ensure that propagation of bacteria as well as oxidation will be prevented.
  • Clears up any dryness and/or flakiness.
  • Kept my skin moisturized and glowing throughout the day.
  • The consistency might be thick but it is very lightweight, making application a breeze. It absorbs very well.
  • No tackiness felt despite the evident moisturization it provides.
  • This works especially well whenever I use exfoliating acids. It keeps my skin calm and hydrated. I can even layer this serum without feeling too sloppy.
  • This is my first Tamanu-infused product and it has been very gentle on my skin. Did not cause any irritations despite me forgetting to patch test (oops).

CONS:

  • The scent is a bit strong. I am clueless as to how a pure Tamanu Oil smells like but this one smells of ginger, or any spicy herb that I couldn't determine properly. If you are scent-sitive, you might not like it.
  • Some might find $27.99 a bit on the expensive side. However, it has 50 ML of product and a little goes a long way. So I believe it is rather justifiable.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I find myself regularly reaching out to this product lately, especially on days when the climate drops. I have red patches all over my face which never seem to go away but this product helps a lot in reducing those. While it does not completely eliminate them, it helps make them less noticeable. I typically layer on this serum during my breakout episodes since it seems to calm my zits outright. Overall, this is a great serum perfect for those with dry, sensitive skin and rosacea.

RATING:

4/5. A point less because of the smell. It's strong and while it doesn't bother me so much, it bothers my husband. 😅 Sometimes it reminds me of a spicy Indian or Thai dish.

REPURCHASE:
For now, I won't be repurchasing just because I still have a lot of it. Also, I've mentioned this several times before, any product which is above $20.00 for me is already expensive. I honestly love this product but being a stay-at-home wife with no fixed income, this one is, unfortunately, pretty steep for my bank account.

Much Love,

[R E V I E W] : Lupa Essentials Coconut Rose Clay Mask - Does It Really Work?

[Disclaimer: Product was gifted by brand but all opinions are entirely my own].

A local, organic brand specializing on blended clay masks is currently on the hype in the Philippine Asian Beauty Community. If you look at the first photo, you might be wondering where you saw it previously? Ring a bell? You guessed it right! I already made a review about another variant and this is still a product from this up and coming brand called "Lupa Essentials". You may click here to view my first review about their Lemongrass+Neem variant, which I have fallen in obsession with. So for today, I tried out their Coconut Rose variant and the question at hand: Does it really work? Is it worth the hype at all?

Let me tell you something, unlike most people who find it a tedious job to mix clay masks, I am the opposite. Making DIY masks is something I truly enjoy, and everything else related to it! From the creative process of mixing the powder with water (or whatever treatment liquid that floats my boat), to witnessing it form into a glorious, cakey mixture, to the cooling sensation as it touches my face, to the hardening process that hinders from moving any part of my face, to the rinsing and feeling just how smooth and glowing my face feels right after everything it has been through. I just felt the need to illustrate that, thank you for your patience. By the way, take a look at the photo right below and tell me you liked it? Props to my Instagram husband for the photo and to Pinterest for the inspiration. LOL.

Follow me on Instagram @skincarelassie

Winter vibes anyone? Too this photo at dawn, really chilly so don't judge my sweater.

Let me try something out with today's review, yes? It just occurred to me that my review formatting may be too "Tita" or too boring. So let me attempt to write a freestyle review for now, shall we? ANYHOO!

So why Coconut Rose? I'm currently breaking out due to the unpredictable weather but it's mostly cold here up in the mountains and I'm starting to get flaky on several areas of my face. The more dry my skin gets, the more chances of waking up to new zits the following day. I was looking for something hydrating enough and at the same time, would take care of my acne. Well, I had to look no further since one of the mask variants gifted to me by Lupa Essentials is the perfect weapon for this war!

It's no secret that coconut fights dryness, as well as it's naturally anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. On the other hand, Roses have anti-inflammatory properties that reduce redness and calm the skin. Talk about hitting two birds in one stone!

Inside the packet. Looks can be deceiving. This is good for 8 usages!

THE LOW DOWN

All of Lupa Essentials' variants come in singular packets in 20 and 40 grams each, retail price depends on the variant. The Coconut Rose retails for Php 160 and Php 260 respectively. This gifted packet came in 10 grams each and is good for about 5 to 8 usages, depending on how much you use. Mine would probably last for 10 usages (or even more) since I only need an itty bitty amount of the powder and it's more than enough to cover my face. Pricing is very affordable if you ask me.

Fine, powdery texture. It pleases me visually lol

THE EXPERIENCE

If I had extra time, I would most likely add some honey or turmeric, or even yogurt into the mixture but since laziness always gets the better of me, I decided to use it as it is. A pea sized Coconut Rose powder together with a few drops of mineral water and I'm good to go. You can add either more powder or water, depending on your preference.

Few drops of mineral water added. Add more powder if you want it thicker.

Same with the Lemongrass+Neem, I'd always love the cooling sensation whenever my brush glides through my face. It felt like it somehow immediately soothes my angry skin. I let the mask sit on until it solidifies so that would take about 15 to 20 minutes before I rinse it off. By the way, always find time to take a selfie and project your inner goddess when masking, because why not?

Masking ala Cleopatra lmao

THE VERDICT

Rinsing the mask off is a breeze. I'm not so sure if it's just me, but washing is my least favorite part of masking since most of the ones I've used are so difficult to remove! It would almost feel like rinsing cement off my face but I didn't experience that with Lupa Essentials masks which is a plus! All it takes is a single wipe of my wet hands on a masked area and it's quickly washed off.

Usually, my face would show pale Red patches after rinsing which was said to be normal. It typically happens when I use Bentonite or Fuller's Earth clay but Coconut Rose takes the cake because I only see a smooth, hydrated, bright and glowing complexion right after washing! The effect is so instant, it's almost too good to be true. No redness, no dryness, no tightness! See for yourself :)

Bare faced and proud, yey!

As suggested by Ms. Rae, it's still best to hydrate right after masking so I did the rest of my routine afterwards. I always use a moisturizing sheet mask after, best combo ever!

If I could rate this mask a hundred stars, I would. Out of all the clay masks I've tried, this brand takes all the brownie points! THE.HYPE.IS.REAL.YA'LL. I will definitely purchase all the other variants as soon as I run out of stock. No questions asked.

GRATITUDE POST: Bellflower Hibiscus Anti-Aging Gel Cream

I would like to thank Mr. Daniel Park of Bellflower Global for sending this newly launched Hibiscus Anti-Aging Gel Cream in exchange for an honest review. Kansahamnida! He freely let me select which product I would like to review and I chose this one since, well, I'm aging lol.

It comes in this minimalistic tube with pretty Pink detailing. I'm slowly obsessing over simple packagings, must be the Tita in me. I tried it on this morning and I love just how velvet-y it felt on my skin without the tackiness. I think I'm going to enjoy using this one a lot! Will be posting a review after a couple of weeks so keep an eye on it!

"Random musings"

I just finished my breakfast with some bread, mayo and a cup of honeyed coffee. Also done with my daily half-hour warm ups and right now, am just chilling in the bedroom and trying to catch up with everyone on IG while struggling not to get jailed. LMAO.

Quite happy with the weather. It's getting colder up here in the mountains but it'll definitely be way colder come January and February. Hubby and I always share colds during New Year's eve, ugh. Hooray for #sweaterweather though! Time to take out all my knits again and I'm thrilled! Knits make everything look so cozy and Instagrammable, yes? I tried hard to take this Tumblr-ish shot, not that great I know, but I guess it's pretty decent? Thinking of getting some real fairy lights now. All these glowing thingies are just edits from Picsart. I've been exploring the features and quite happy with my progress.

Why am I being so talkative anyway? Put a sock on it XD

Much Love,

GRATITUDE POST: Pinctada South Sea Pearl Soap

I would like to thank Pinctada South Sea Pearl Soap for allowing me to review their much-hyped product. The owner was very kind and generous to send me three pieces of their soaps and I am quite ecstatic to use it, having read and heard a ton of positive feedback!

A bit of information about this up and coming local brand, they formulate handcrafted soaps made with real South Sea Pearl Powder from Palawan Pearl Farms! Doesn't it sound so exquisite right off the bat? They claim that this star ingredient helps your skin by stimulating its fibrolast cells which work to synthesize collagen. This results to cleansed, healed and rejuvenated skin! No wonder they boast of perfect 5-star ratings in Beauty MNL!

I can't wait to try it and be sure to watch out for my in depth review after a couple of weeks! Check their stores out through these social networking sites below and give them a follow:

[ R E V I E W ] : MiZuMi UV Watery Serum

[Disclaimer: Product was gifted by brand but all opinions are entirely my own].

By now, I have a theory that most skincare junkies today paid no heed to sunscreens back in the days, and I am no exception. I grew up playing games on the streets from morning until lunch time when the sun was at its' most wrathful state. We also had frequent family excursions to the beach then, good thing my mom would always bring sunblock along and give me a good nagging whenever I whine about applying some on my face. Growing up with really dark skin, I was under the impression that I was a naturally-born Morena

Come 2015, my High School peers and I went to Caramoan Islands in Bicol for a week long getaway. The typhoon had just passed but the sun still wasn't visible. I couldn't figure out why my girl friends even bothered lathering on sunscreen when there was no sun in sight. They even offered to put some on me and I kindly refused since I thought it wasn't necessary, plus I hated feeling sticky. We went on full island hopping the entire day, gone snorkeling, climbing limestones, and some more snorkeling. I remember the feeling of heat slowly creeping up my cheeks that afternoon which I brushed off as normal.

That night totally changed me. I washed my face with cold tap water since the heat was becoming wearisome. It wouldn't go away. I examined my arms, my legs, they looked so much darker than they already were and had a darkish Red hue but it was nothing compared to the horror that was my face. I turned the lights on to take a closer look and I bawled as soon as I realized what was happening. My face was the color of crimson from the scalp up to my ears. Tiny wrinkles crept up whenever I attempt to move my mouth. It was as though the top layer of my skin shrunk to a flimsy sheet that would tear apart at the slightest movement of my lips. But the worse part wasn't over. There were small blisters forming on my temples, on the side of my mouth, as well as on my nose. Blisters everywhere. Finally, I came to the realization that I was sun-burnt, really bad.

During the height of my agony. Taken using an oldschool camera. Sorry for the bad quality.

I visited the most esteemed Dermatologist in our town as soon I got back home and he gave me the most monumental scolding of my life. I was given medications to lessen the redness and itch, creams to accelerate the peeling of burnt skin and probably the biggest bottle of sunscreen I've seen in my life.

Sorry about the visible strap. I was a young, innocent kid LMAO

I feel funny whenever I recall those times. Since then, I've fallen in love with SPF and has so far became that one staple in my skincare routine. What's even weirder is the fact that all this time, I wasn't actually a morena. The moment I started using sunscreen, my skin tone became lighter overtime. Not that it contains skin whitening ingredients whatsoever. But it helped in restoring my natural fairness I never knew existed.

So I reckon I've rattled on quite long enough? Kindly read on as I share my thoughts about one of my, if not the, Holy Grail sunscreens: MiZuMi UV Watery Serum. My utmost gratitude to Miss Macy for reaching out and gifting me with this amazing product! 💙💙💙.

  • Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E which is mainly for anti-aging and wound healing)

COMPLETE LIST OF INGREDIENTS:

MiZuMi UV Watery Serum

VOLUME:
40 grams

PRICE:
Php 1,399.00 /$27.55 (beautymnl price)

CLAIMS:
- Mild enough to be used by all skin types, especially sensitive ones as well as acne prone.
- It has SPF 50 PA+++ that provides maximum and long lasting protection against UV rays
- Does not leave a white cast on the face
- lightweight and non sticky thus quite suitable for everyday use.

Viscous texture but watery

DIRECTIONS:
Always shake well before usage. Apply liberally on entire face and neck.

IMPRESSIONS:
Unlike most of the sunscreens I used previously, this one has no fragrance, not even a mild scent. Rather, it gives off a an earthly-scent, which I appreciate since I am assured that it is free from harmful chemicals.

EXPERIENCE:
I have been using this sunscreen consistently everyday, for three weeks. "Apply liberally" is my name of the game. I make sure to smear on pea-sized drops on every corner of my face. So far, I assume there is about 20-25% product remaining, or probably less.

Easily spreads and glides on smoothly

THOUGHTS:

PROS:
  • I am a constant user of natural/organic products thus earthly smells do not annoy me at all. It has that kind of scent and I like it a lot.
  • The container is a little skinny and relatively small so it fits even inside my jeans' pockets. Very handy and travel friendly.
  • The bottle has a semi fine tip applicator (I can't figure out the correct term for it) which allows me to dispense my preferred amount of product.
  • The product is rather viscous but it glides very smoothly on my face and is surprisingly lightweight. No tackiness felt whatsoever even after it has set.
  • It has a tone-up effect which made my face instantly brighter but without horrible white cast effects.
  • Has velvety to almost matte-but not-flat finish which is perfect for our country's humid weather.
Screencap from my Get Ready With Me IGTV clip

CONS:
  • This is usually the reason for my cons and you guessed it right! The price point. It retails for Php 1,399.00 for a bottle of 40 grams. It is very expensive, to say the least.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
If only I was still a working woman with a fixed income, I would not have any problems with splurging on products which I really like. I might have a bit of setbacks but it won't stop me from shelling out an extra cash if the quality is undeniable. However, it is not the case at this point. I am now a housewife and every cent is Gold to me. Quite unfortunately, this amazing sunscreen has now fallen victim to my lack of financial resources and therefore, will be included in my list of what-could-have-beens. I love this sunscreen. I really do! But I will not be able to afford you anytime soon. If only it was priced just a tad bit lower than a thousand, I'd let you take my bank account wholeheartedly. But until then, I will cry for you.

Screencap from my IGTV clip. Lovin' the Tone Up effect with no white cast

RATING:
4.5/5, 'cause of the price. Other than that, it's perfect!

REPURCHASE:
Definitely I will, someday. LOL.

[ R E V I E W ] : Lupa Essentials Lemongrass + Neem

[Disclaimer: Product was gifted by brand but all opinions are entirely my own].

"Behind every mask, there is a face. And behind that face, a story" - Marty Rubin. I'm not quite familiar with the owner of that quote but I definitely agree with him! You see, I have an inarguable bond with face masks of all sorts; sheet masks, peel off, wash off, overnight masks, I love them all dearly. When Miss Rae of Lupa Essentials reached out to me and I learned that she would be gifting me with three clay mask variants, I literally squealed! My penchant for clay masks go beyond years. I am a huge believer of Ayurvedic skincare, but I will try to delve on that system on a separate post.

During the last three days, I and my husband spent time cleaning the house. My family was visiting today and knowing my mom, I was certain as heck she'd freak out and nag about how dirty my house was lol. Relate? 😂 We finished late last night and I could feel all the dirt and grime building inside my pores. I was too terror-stricken to face the mirror and see just how "dugyot" I looked. Feeling all worn-out and smutty, there was only one thing left to do: MASKING! It's some sort of therapy for me. Whenever I feel un-pretty, or stressed or just plain bored, I create a little bit of mixture to perk me up. Nothing's better than a soothing dank pack on my face to recuperate my exhausted soul. Since I was also having some pesky breakouts, I quickly reached for the Lemongrass+Neem mask and the rest was history.

Read on 😉.

Thank you Lupa Essentials for sending these babies!

It is a detoxifying blend which is clay-based with a mix of herbs and a blend of essential oils.

Bentonite clay, French Green Clay, Fullers Earth, Lemongrass, Neem, Zinc Oxide, charcoal and essential oils.

First weapon of choice, Lemongrass+Neem. Great for oily and acne prone skin!

VOLUME:
10 grams per packet

PRICE:
Three masks for Php 350.00

CLAIMS:
- Perfect for acne prone, oily and combination skin
- May also be used as a spot treatment for pimples
- Has strong detoxing properties that help in keeping acne at bay

DIRECTIONS:
Mix 1 tsp of powder with half tsp of water. Slowly mix into a paste. Add more water according to your preference. You may opt to substitute water with milk, honey, yogurt or any liquid of your choice for extra moisturizing and healing properties. Leave mask on for 10 to 15 minutes, relax then rinse. Ensure to moisturize afterwards. For best results, use 2 to 3 times a week.

How the powder looks like

IMPRESSIONS:
The packet is made of biodegradable paper and is resealable. The whiff of lemongrass with a tinge of Neem can be smelled upon opening the packet. The scent alone is already relaxing.

EXPERIENCE:
I have used the product only once, hence, you may deem this review as my partial thoughts in the meantime. I only mixed around half a teaspoon of the powder with a bit of water. A thin layer is all I need to cover the entire face.

When mixed with water

THOUGHTS:

PROS:
👍 As mentioned above, I love the scent. I know the scent of Lemongrass and Neem by heart since I loved DIY masking, as inspired by Ayurvedic skincare. The scent is very relaxing.
👍 A bit of powder goes a long way.  My mixture of half a tsp of powder and few drops of water was sufficient to cover the entire face.
👍 It tightens just like any other clay mask but this one does not feel heavy nor tacky at all.
👍 It rinses well and quickly. My face instantly felt soft and smooth.
👍 There's also an instant brightening effect plus my pores looked visibly smaller right after.

A shameless selfie of me while masking because why not

CONS:
- Let me leave this blank as I cannot think of anything I disliked.

Barefaced but don't be fooled. Lighting is great so my zits aren't that too obvious

RATING: 5/5 Lemons 🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋

REPURCHASE:
Definitely! It is very affordable for a price of Php 350.00 for a set of three masks and one mask is already good for 5 to 8 usages. I still have two more variants to try, the Glow Booster and the Coconut Rose. I will definitely give those a try very soon so kindly wait for my review too. If there would be any other effect/s with the succeeding use of the mask, I will ensure to edit this post and keep you guys updated.

Visit Lupa Essentials' Page to browse their other variants. Ciao~

Much Love,
